BECOMING A GOLDCREST HOMEOWNERS
ASSOCIATION BOARD MEMBER OR VOLUNTEER
I. Functions Performed By The
Goldcrest Board of Directors
A. Develop
policies to preserve and improve the quality of life, security, and property
values in Goldcrest
B. Meet
on the third Thursday of each month for approximately two hours in the
evening. We perform the following
activities on a continuing basis:

Manage the
subdivision maintenance contract and oversee various improvements to the
subdivision
·
Review and
analyze the fiscal soundness of the Association through discussion and approval
of the Treasurer's monthly report. We
also develop and approve the annual Association budget and review the auditor's
report of our financial statements
·
Communicate
periodically with residents through newsletters and distribute other
publications, such as the Goldcrest telephone directory
·
Enforce the
restrictive covenants to maintain property values and a harmonious appearance
in the subdivision
·
Establish
social gatherings such as the annual Goldcrest picnic
·
Hold
homeowner meetings to get approval for annual budgets, the election of officers
and the adoption of new policies proposed by the Board
II. Organization of the Board of
Directors And Responsibilities
·
We have a
President, two Vice Presidents and a Secretary/Treasurer along with three
additional Board members
·
Each Board
Member is expected to participate by attending meetings and completing their
Committee assignments
·
Board
members have a fiduciary responsibility which means they must act only in the
best interest of the association. More
specifically, we have a duty to prevent waste of community resources, not use
association assets or activities for personal gain and to treat all members
fairly and consistent with appropriate laws
·
Article VII
of the Bylaws indicates that Board members are indemnified against the costs of
lawsuits unless the Board member was negligent or engaged in misconduct. The Association also carries insurance to
protect Board members.
III. What new Innovations Are We Pursuing
This Year
·
Completing
major improvements to Goldcrest Drive using a mix of Olympia City and Goldcrest
Association Funds
·
Developing a web site to improve member communication
and save on information distribution costs
·
Updating the
Protective Covenants and Bylaws
·
Encouraging
more volunteerism and involvement in subdivision activities
IV. Why Are We Asking Homeowners To
Consider Serving on the Board of Directors?
·
There is a
Board vacancy and there are a number of activities that could use additional
volunteers
·
Many
homeowners have specialized knowledge and experiences that could help us manage
this subdivision
·
We want to
encourage more participation and bring in new ideas and perspectives
·
Board
members and volunteers have a direct impact on this subdivision, which is our
home and an important investment
V. What Volunteer Opportunities Are
Available
·
The
Maintenance Committee needs volunteers to help with subdivision beautification
projects, such as trimming, replacing plants and removing weeds
·
The
Newsletter and Annual Picnic Committee needs assist in developing and
organizing social events
·
The
Protective Covenants Committee can use some help in writing articles or
developing other content for the
Goldcrest Web Site
